Abstract
Surface emitting laser arrays are important system elements in various optical interconnection schemes. Vertical cavity surface emitting lasers1 are a natural choice for these applications because of high packing density and single-mode operation. A way to achieve controlled electrical addressing of large 2-D laser arrays is by using a matrix addressing scheme, in which the wiring complexity is only 2N for an array of N × N lasers.
