Abstract
High power femtosecond lasers can be used to generate bright x-ray sources. The choice of element for the laser-produced-plasma target strongly affects the nature of the emitted x-rays. Combining low Z and high Z elements results in the brightest femtosecond x-ray radiators. Examples of lithium and tin combinations yielding 3.6 Ǻ x-rays with up to several percent conversion efficiencies are given.
