Abstract
Nonlinear, coupled, planar waveguides (directional couplers) have been the subject of extensive studies, both numerically1 and analytically,2 for their potential use as an all-optical logic unit. However, most of the analytical results rely on the coupled-modes approximation, which reduces the mathematical model to two coupled, one-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equations.
