Abstract
Due to the increasing application of high-birefringence polarization-holding fiber in fiber systems, there is a high current interest in fiber polarizers and polarizing fibers.1,2 To date, most discrete fiber polarizers reported have been made with ordinary low-birefringence fiber so that they are not compatible with high-birefringence fiber. Recently, two polarizing fibers have been reported1,2 which utilize high fiber birefringence combined with an appropriate fiber geometry to allow the low-loss propagation of only one linear polarization mode.
