Abstract
A novel cascaded Raman resonator approach has been used to utilize high-power, fiber-coupled pump sources in the 1-µm region to amplify signals at 1.3 µm in germanosilicate fibers. Gains of 40 dB and output powers of +24.6 dBm have been achieved. The first successful digital transmission test of a 1.3 micron cascaded Raman amplifier has also been completed.
