Abstract
Semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) at 1.3|im wavelength, with polarization insensitive gain over the entire current and wavelength range, and with tilted and antireflection coated facets for low reflectivities, are attractive for transparent switching- and optical communication systems. Moreover, the noise performance of SOAs is one of the key parameters influencing their effectiveness in telecommunications networks and systems.
