Energy Relaxation and Recombination Studies in Homogeneous 2D Plasmas

Abstract

During the last decade dynamic properties of electron hole plasmas in III-V semiconductor quantum wells like recombination or energy relaxation have been studied intensively. In these experiments a high density electron hole plasma is created and e.g. the thermalization is studied by an analysis of the emission lineshape with model curves for the band to band recombination. One problem of these studies on large 2D samples results from the inhomogeneous density distribution. Due to the spatial profile of the laser beam and the carrier diffusion the emission spectra include contributions of regions with widely varying density which may influence the interpretation of the data strongly.
