Abstract
Mode-locking of solid state lasers by a variety of novel passive schemes has recently attracted wide interest. Modelocked diode-pumped lasers have proven to be very efficient, compact laser sources for picosecond short pulse generation and are well suited to these nonlinear mode-locking techniques. We report on self-mode-locking of a diode-pumped Nd: YLF laser to produce, in a completely passive manner, pulses of 6psec duration with over 1 Watt of average output power.
