Abstract
The average power output of a solid state laser medium is typically limited by the pump energy deposited as heat in the lasing medium. This heat leads either first to unacceptable wavefront or depolarization of the output or ultimately to catastrophic failure of the medium. This work has measured induced heat under both flash lamp pumped and diode pump conditions. We believe this is the first reported measurements in the same material, APG-1, under both pumping conditions.
