Abstract
We have developed a new optical Doppler-velocimetry technique for seeded flows illuminated by a monochromatic laser light-sheet. In contrast to conventional laser Doppler velocimetry1 (LDV) based on scanned, point-by-point measurements, our technique yields global, simultaneous, and quantitative visualization of the flow velocities over the illuminated plane. We have applied the technique to a free-expansion jet at near sonic velocities in a small wind tunnel.
