Abstract
Recently many studies have been performed on high power laser diodes for such uses as solid state laser pumping, medical instruments, and machining in industry.1 Since we introduced the 1-W laser in 1987,2,3 the possibility of getting much higher optical power has received much interest. We report stable 3- and 10-W operation of a 600-μm wide single stripe laser diode and a 18-mm wide array laser diode, respectively.
